Katie, our assistant, and I set out for a certain spot on Beaver Lake with a particular shot in mind. The weather and a park ranger put an end to that thought. We raced to another spot and managed to get in the water and set the light just as the sun went away. I think I can live with the results of Plan B.
Sometimes I get carried away fussing with gear and lighting and all the technical mess that can be photography. I'll beat myself up if I don't "nail" the lighting and exposure and focus, and I prefer not to spend time in Photoshop trying to fix something that I didn't get right in the first place. But when a senior's mom says "You captured her spirit perfectly. That's my daughter!", well, that makes everything all right.
